Regardless of how much you put in, the expected return per dollar is the same: $0.92 (at 8% rake). Depositing more gives higher win probability but identical expected value per dollar. Putting 80% of the pot doesn’t give you an “edge” — it just makes you more likely to win a smaller relative profit while risking a much larger absolute loss.
The sweet spot — 15-35% of the pot
At 80% pot share, you win 80% of the time but your upside is tiny (you gain 20% of the pot minus rake — roughly $18 net on a $200 pot where you put in $160). And when you lose? You lose $160 to gain zero. The risk/reward ratio at extreme percentages is terrible.
At 15-35% of the pot, you have a meaningful chance of winning (1 in 3 to 1 in 7) with a substantial payout if you do. A $40 entry on a $200 pot at 8% rake gives you a 20% chance at $184 — a $144 profit. Lose and you’re down $40. Much better risk/reward than dominating the pot.
